People misjudge the value of Ayn Rand’s novels because they make the mistake of evaluating her work as philosophical literature. Her work is best enjoyed if read as romance-drama with a sprinkling of philosophy. Atlas Shrugged is Gone with the Wind for intellectuals. Ayn Rand belongs in the same market category as Daphne du Maurier or Margaret Mitchell.
Her work is so much more enjoyable when you take it as romantic fantasy, as I have done. Atlas Shrugged has impacted me in the same way early 2000s romantic comedies have impacted millennial women: our dating expectations deeply affected thereby.
